Bad News... (Please read!)

Mon Jun 22, 2009, 12:20 PM
:iconsailorsirius:

Well, guys... Looks like w4ste is shutting down.

Now before you flip out on me, let me explain. (Though you may still flip out on me afterwards.) It's not your faults, it's our's. Sprite's never really had any interest in judging in the first place. She's been too busy with art and college. As for CSP, he's tired of the tournament. It hasn't turned out like he wanted, and such. We've been thinking of shutting it down since about Arc 1 Round 2 but I tried to keep it going for the sake of the plot and mainly you guys, despite the fact I had lost interest as well. As some of you may know, running a tournament is a lot of work and if you've lost interest it's utter pain. Really. But we didn't just want to drop it so we kept on going. I've been in a tournament that just stopped before and it was horrendous. I hated it. That's why I'm really sorry to say w4ste is over. Sprite is busy with an internship and CSP just can't bring himself to judge, write scripts for comics, make comics, or sign on to the account to make announcements anymore. (Really, I've been the only one juding since the beginning.)

I know a lot of you have gotten really invested in this and we're really greatful for your enthusiasm. Windy, Zeph, you two are some of the reasons this tournament lasted as long as it did, and we really, really appreciate it.

I considered taking over the tournament for a while but honestly, CSP has all the plot stuff and I'd just make an utter mess of everything. (Not to mention two out of four matches were default wins. Seriously people? SERIOUSLY? TWO people didn't even bother to make entries?)

But! That doesn't mean your efforts will go unrewarded.

For Windy, winner of Arc 1:

One free commission from your's truely. It aint much, but it's all I can offer.

:iconwindguru:

For those who participated in Arc 2! Here are your consolation prizes:

Winners of Arc 2:
:iconxxxlalo:, :iconmartincrossbow:, :icontigerkytti:, and :iconduriandurian-chan:
get a colored chibi commission.

For those of you who bothered to finish your entries:
:iconjonasgarland: and :iconjens5461:
you get a sketch chibi commission.

W4STE Journal Updates: Thus Concludes Round 1

Wed Apr 22, 2009, 6:22 PM
:iconcsp499:

The deadline has been passed; too many winners by default (and too many writing entries- no offense, but... sheesh), but I'm not making any more extensions or exceptions. Seriously, I think you had enough time.

:iconjonasgarland: [link] vs :iconxxxlalo: [link]
:iconevil-stan: N/A vs :iconmartincrossbow: [link] (winner by default)
:iconduriandurian-chan: [link] vs :iconjens5461: [link]
:icontigerkytti: [link] (winner by default) vs :iconklastie: N/A

Who didn't win by default? That'll be determined in the next comic! Stay tuned... I guess.

In other news: Writing entries.
I know there's at least one of you out there (*cough*Lalo*cough*) who can submit drawn entries as opposed to written ones. Now, no offense to you awesome writers out there, but my patience and time are becoming too limited to read all your entries. Which is why I'd prefer if more people resorted to comics. I maken't any obligations to you here, but reading really isn't my gig.

EDIT Forgot Jens' entry.

Judges and NPCs

Fri Oct 10, 2008, 7:38 PM
Who are the judges and what do they do?
The three judges decide the victor in each pair. At the end of each round, a collab-comic will be posted, showing the judges' final review.
In the storyline, the three Head Judges regulate battles between those fighting for a position of power, and prevent war from breaking out.

The judges and their characters are as follows:
:iconcsp499:
Agathoi
[link]

Agathoi's background- just like everything else about him- is completely unknown. His very presence is unsettling, even disturbing to many, and not even the other two superior judges know anything of him, apart from his desolate, stoic personality... or, more appropriately, lack thereof. He obtained his seat of power after killing Basileus by unknown means, making his head explode. Agathoi's abilities are not known, and the sword he carries- taken from the corpse of Basileus- is clearly just a decoration and status symbol.

:iconsailorsirius:
Alice
[link]

Alice was a servant girl in the guild of judges (probably) for most of her youth. After Agathoi had killed the previous judge and had been working with Andante for a while he chose her for the third judge for reasons unknown.

Since then her personality has completely changed. She's become rude, assertive, and aloof. In the years since then she's grown and now she has... Well, she's... She's got a rediculously amazing figure. She attempts to look dignified when performing her official duties, though this is difficult when dressed in such a skimpy outfit. She has a tendency to flaunt her figure, and seems to have a soft spot for Andante, though it's debatable weather she's actually trying to manipulate him in some way. She wields a harpoons in combat, which she hurls at opponents at incredible velocities.

:iconspriteocarina:
Andante
[link]

Andante is a child prodigy, born into a powerful aristocratic family of the Arkaan Empire. He entered the Guild of Judges at age twelve, and since then has become the official strategist and tactician of the guild. Due to his superior intellect and high education, many would argue that he is perhaps the most brilliant scholar Arkaan has ever seen.

Unfortunately, Andante's many personality flaws seem to overshadow his intellectual brilliance. He is best described as being rude, egotistical, and a control freak, unable to accept anything that isn't his own idea. He is aware that he is a genius and the best at what he does, and makes a point to brag about it very often. He also has a tendency to whine and complain when things don't go his way, and can even be a crybaby at times.

General Overview

Fri Oct 10, 2008, 7:37 PM
What is W4STE?
W4STE is a story-oriented Original Character Battle Tournament, in a post-apocalyptic setting reminiscent to ancient Mesopotamia. The tournament is basic- competitors are paired up to fight against each-other, and the winning contestant is chosen among three judges. Through the course of the tournament, there is a developing storyline, which usually updates as each round ends and begins.

If you want to put a character into the tournament's storyline, but don't want to participate directly, you can submit an NPC, which will be integrated into the storyline in whatever way you see fit (as long as it's okay with us!).

How does the system work?
Like any basic OC battle, competitors will draw a comic or write an entry depicting a battle between their character and the one of their opponent. The three judges will then come to a decision for the winner of each pair. The judgments will be represented by an end-of-round comic, with a review by each judge's NPC.

What are the rules?
While there is plenty of leeway for a character to deviate from the W4STE storyline, it is recommended to have at least SOME sensible connection. No fan characters are allowed. All group-based characters must be dependent, meaning that, if you use two or more characters, they cannot fight independently, and must be seen with the other(s) in any battle. For characters that, for example, command large army-sized groups, their underlings must be able to compensate for large numbers by being considerably weak individually.

What's the story?
The story is set more than 100,000 years after a second ice age had depleted Earth's resources and consumed all usable land, pitting the nations of the world against each-other and resulting in a self-inflicted, frozen apocalypse. The world is now somewhat like a remake of the ancient Mesopotamian civilization, only in a cold, dark, arctic setting. None remember the past, as it has faded into legend, and some have obtained special powers after a rapid evolutionary period has taken place.

In the great Arkaanian empire, blood is the ultimate trophy. The various assimilated tribes fight each-other for power, and the leader of Arkaan is decided by the one who can surpass the other in battle. However, order has been set over the fights, as the rapidly fluctuating head of royalty is to be decided now. The Guild of Judges, the three most powerful figures in Arkaan, responsible for regulating the wars between clans, have chosen to oversee a decisive battle among those who vie for power (and those who got caught in the middle of it); a tournament, to finally place a true leader at the head of the empire in an orderly fashion. But a certain devious presence lurks behind the guise provided by this contest, as the enigmatic guild and its three leaders seem to have different plans.

What do I get if I win?
The prize is being debated. Sprite (:iconspriteocarina:), (:iconsailorsirius:) Siri and I (:iconcsp499:) are still discussing it.
